Fast starts for 4 teams as Group Stage 2 opens at Austin Major

Four teams got off to 2-0 starts when Group Stage 2 began on Saturday at the BLAST.tv Austin Major in Texas.

FaZe Clan, paiN Gaming, Virtus.pro and Legacy won their first-round matches and Round 2 high matches.

The $1.25 million Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event, which began with 32 teams, features three Swiss-system group stages.

Sixteen teams advanced through qualifying events to reach Group Stage 1, where all early-round matches were a single map while advancement and elimination matches were best-of-three.

The top eight teams in Group Stage 1 advanced to Group Stage 2, where eight invited teams awaited: Team Falcons, FaZe Clan, 3DMAx, Virtus.pro, paiN Gaming, FURIA, MIBR and M80.

The same process applies in Group Stage 2, with the top eight squads moving on to Group Stage 3, where eight more invited teams will join the action: Team Vitality, MOUZ, Team Spirit, G2 Esports, The MongolZ, Aurora Gaming, Natus Vincere and Team Liquid.

The top eight teams in Group Stage 3 advance to the single-elimination playoffs, where all matches will be best-of-3, including the grand final on June 22.

The winning team will earn $500,000, and the runner-up will pocket $170,000.

On Saturday, B8 defeated Team Falcons 13-8 on Ancient as Daniil "headtr1ck" Valitov of Ukraine had 19 kills and a plus-11 kills-deaths differential for B8.

FaZe Clan got the better of HEROIC 13-3 on Dust II as David "frozen" Cernansky of Slovakia had 21 kills and a plus-16 K-D for FaZe Clan.

3DMAX scored a 13-4 victory over BetBoom Team on Anubis. Frenchman Bryan "Maka" Canda of 3DMAX recorded 18 kills and a plus-10 differential.

Virtus.pro downed OG 13-2 on Inferno. Denis "electroNic" Sharipov of Russia had 16 kills and a plus-12 differential for Virtus.pro.

The paiN Gaming team downed Nemiga Gaming 13-7 on Dust II as Lucas "nqz" Soares of Brazil had 15 kills and a plus-10 differential for paiN Gaming.

FURIA Esports defeated Lynn Vision Gaming 13-4 on Nuke. Danil "moloday" Golubenko of Kazakhstan notched 21 kills and a plus-16 differential for FURIA.

Legacy won a battle with MIBR 13-10 on Nuke as Brazilian Bruno "latto" Rebelatto had 22 kills and a plus-10 K-D for Legacy.

TYLOO got past M80 13-9 on Train as China's Dongkai "Jee" Ji had 17 kills and a plus-4 differential for TYLOO.

In Round 2 high matches, paiN edged FURIA 13-11 on Dust II, Virtus-pro downed B8 13-3 on Inferno, FaZe Clan defeated TYLOO 13-5 on Anubis and Legacy topped 3DMAX 13-7 on Inferno.

In Round 2 low matches, Lynn Vision Gaming downed the Falcons 13-9 on Nuke and HEROIC defeated BetBoom 13-9 on Mirage. Nemiga Gaming outlasted MIBR 16-12 on Ancient, and M80 outbattled OG 16-13 on Ancient.
